Ace Magashule

Cape Town – Former African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule is reportedly set to announce his political plans after months of speculation about his future.

According to IOL, Magashule confirmed that he will make the announcement in Soweto on Wednesday, although he did not provide further details.

He said that he would remain involved in politics despite the uncertainty.

“I am in politics; I won’t leave politics,” the report quoted Magashule as saying.

The speculation about Magashule’s future began when he left the ANC.

He had been asked to step aside from his position due to charges related to the asbestos matter in the Free State.

This prevented him from contesting for leadership positions within the ANC.

Later, he was charged by the ANC National Disciplinary Committee and ultimately expelled in June for failing to present reasons why he should not be expelled.

These charges were linked to his refusal to step aside in relation to the asbestos case and his attempt to charge President Cyril Ramaphosa in May 2021.

Magashule was initially elected as secretary-general in the 2017 Nasrec conference.
