Alan Winde

Cape Town – The Democratic Alliance (DA) announced on Saturday that Alan Winde will be its candidate for Western Cape premier in the 2024 general elections.

Winde, who has held the position since 2019, expressed his gratitude for the nomination on Twitter, highlighting his track record of accomplishments in the province.

“I am truly humbled and honoured to receive the nomination for this job once again. We’ve got a track record which shows that we get things done, and we’re ready to work even harder to do more, for you, the residents of the Western Cape!,” he wrote.

DA leader John Steenhuisen, during the announcement, praised Winde’s leadership in making the Western Cape one of the best-run regions in South Africa.

“This is the leader who has kept this province moving forward even as the state collapses in other parts of South Africa,” he said.

Steenhuisen also criticised other parties, including the ANC, for attempting to undermine the DA’s support in the province.

He referred to several parties as “glorified ANC branches” and warned against a potential coalition involving the ANC, EFF, and others.

The DA and several other parties recently formed the Multi-Party Charter, agreeing not to work with the ANC or EFF and signed a coalition agreement ahead of the 2024 elections.
