Cape Town – Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has reassured residents that political instability in the city is no longer an issue.
The most recent attempt to remove him from office by a motion of no confidence from ActionSA, was withdrawn.
According to EWN, Gwamanda labelled this move by ActionSA as a publicity stunt and said that his government is focused on good governance, service delivery, and development.
“ActionSA is grasping at straws. They are looking for a reason to find expression from the opposition. This government is prioritising good governance, service delivery, and growth and development. The motion of no confidence would not have worked in the first place because the coalition is intact,” the report quoted Gwamanda as saying.
Mashaba on Sunday explained the withdrawal of his party’s motion of no confidence Gwamanda, attributing it to alleged sabotage by the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The motion was initially planned for a council meeting this week.
Mashaba claimed that his party decided to retract the motion due to inadequate backing, which he attributed to the DA’s interference, The Citizen, reported.
“The reason why we’ve decided to withdraw it is because the DA has come out with a very ridiculous, unsensational, irrational decision to sabotage our motion.
“We put our motion six weeks before the multi-party charter was signed and precisely because the mayor is facing serious allegations of criminality. That motion was served last month and the Speaker refused it,” the report quoted Mashaba as saying.
The motion was lodged six weeks before a multi-party charter was signed, as Gwamanda faced allegations of criminality.
ActionSA informed the DA about the motion before a pact agreement, seeking their support, but discussions with various parties failed to secure the necessary backing from the DA for the motion to proceed.
