Cape Town – Minister Gwede Mantashe’s recent kiss from an elderly woman in the Northern Cape during an ANC manifesto review event in Roodepan, Kimberley, has ignited a debate on social media.

According to Times live, Mantashe over the weekend, delivered the keynote address at the ANC manifesto review event in Roodepan, Kimberley, where he was warmly greeted, and even received a kiss from an elderly woman known as “gogo”.

Such instances of ANC leaders receiving kisses from elderly women have become common closer to elections.

Mantashe praised the party for its grants programme during his speech, although there have been delays in payouts affecting many South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant beneficiaries.

He also acknowledged governance challenges, particularly load-shedding, blaming the ANC for not heeding warnings about power generation capacity issues dating back to 1997.
